Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful first week. I apologize for this not coming out on Friday afternoon, but I had to leave right after school to a family wedding in Northern Maine. We have no electricity or internet up there so this update will be coming home to you on Monday this week. Our school is also switching our teacher website providers. I am working on finalizing my new website and it should be up and running in the next week or two. I will let you know when it is finalized. You will still be able to connect to it through the school site. This past week we have been learning how to navigate through out the school and learn our classmates and many teachers’ names. We spent the week learning about each other and our teachers. We have learned how to navigate fire drills, recess rules, lunch rules, and all the many changing rules life has to offer in the school setting. The three biggest ones are how to be Safe, Respectful and Responsible. We have been discussing the life cycle of a butterfly. We did some cooking on Friday using different items to help us remember the life cycle. A paper plate should have come home on Friday with a plastic baggie with all the items the kids needed to show and discuss the life cycle of a butterfly. Their take home kit was minus the tootsie roll, which represented the chrysalis, (I ran out sorry)! We have been learning how to follow our new routines and all the new expected and unexpected behaviors in our school and classroom. Who would have thought there is so much to our academic process? We have 4 birthdays this week. We will celebrate birthdays in the classroom. I have special activities prepared for each child’s celebration. If you would like to send in a snack on your child’s birthday you are more than welcome to. We celebrate the birthday at our morning snack time. We do not have any allergies in our classroom and we have 11 friends. The only exception will be this Friday, we have two birthdays on that day. In that case we will celebrate one birthday in the morning and one in the afternoon so the treats are spread out during the day. I hope you enjoyed the Friday letter that came home, and had a chance to respond to your child. I will be holding on to these letters to create a book that will be a memory of their year. We are working to get to know one another. Each student will have the opportunity to bring home our class apron. Mrs. Lamontagne and I have already done our part to help model what was expected. Each day a new student will be chosen to bring home the story telling apron. They will then put items into the apron that describes themselves. Enclosed in the plastic backpack is the apron and a letter describing the process. Our weekly schedule has finally been finalized and below you will find what to expect for each day of the week. Monday 1:25-2:05 Music with Mr. Saunders Tuesday 1:25-2:05 Gym)with Ms. Baines Wednesday 1:25-2:05 Art with Mrs. Chaison Thursday 1:25-2:05 Library with Mrs. Charles Friday We will have learning Buddies on this day with Dr. Stearns 4th graders. I am just not sure of the time yet but I will keep you posted. Attached to this letter is a permission to share your contact information with the other parents in the class. Once the information comes in I will make a spread sheet with a list of the families, their street address, phone number and email address. I find that sharing this information with the classmates helps with arranging playdates, birthday parties and creating new friendships. Please make sure that all invitations are sent through the mail or through phone calls. Please do not send invitations in to school to be delivered. I hope everyone’s first week has gone well.
