What a week we have had. Four birthdays, 5 butterflies hatching, One Chrysalis to go, and the friends, oh the friends we have made. We also just received 7 painted lady caterpillars and will be able to watch their metamorphosis. So many changes are happening.
We have been doing a ton of adjusting. This was our first full week of 6 hour day of school. Holy Cow that is a full day. We are all working hard to learn all the rules, adjust to schedules and their many changes, new friendships, new teachers and oh so many changes and newness. We have been busy creating and learning. I hope you will be able to join us on Tuesday September 19th at 6:05 in the Readiness room for our Back to School night. This is a parent’s night only to give us an opportunity for you to see what is going on in the classroom as well as answer any questions that you may still have. On Wednesday September 20th from 6:30-8:30 in the Goffstown High School Theater, Lynn Lyons will be presenting to parents, teenagers and young adults on Anxiety. As a staff we were lucky enough to hear her speak before school started and I myself am excited to go again with my own children to hear her speak. She is a phenomenal speaker and has made me look at my own parenting and teaching in a new light. I hope you will have an opportunity to go see her speak. Monday September 25th is picture day. Our class heads down to the gym for pictures at 8:15. I pick that slot so that we don’t have a chance to spill on our picture day outfits. Friday September 29th we will be having our annual Harvest Festival. A notice was sent home with items that we need for the Festival, I hope you are able to help us out. There will be more news to come as we get closer. Next week we will continue getting to know one another with our All About Me Apron that has been making its rounds through the classroom. The kids are very excited to bring it home, fill it and then share with the class. Be on the lookout for it. We will also begin our study of the farm and fall harvest in preparation for our Fall Harvest that we celebrate every year with the first graders. We have our very first homework assignment. We need a class name. This weekend brainstorm with your child some ideas and write them down. Have you child bring them in, we will write all our ideas down and begin to learn about the democratic process. We will vote several times during the day reducing the number of ideas on the board until we get to our favorite one. This is a long process but with each vote it gets more and more exciting to see what our class name will be. When brainstorming some ideas there are a few rules. The name should consist of two words that both begin with the same letter. We cannot be a team name that already exists (eg. Boston red sox, Patriots). Some example of other class names we have had are The Tumbling Turtles, Readiness Rockstars, and Jumping Jellybeans. We always try to stay with positive adjectives. I hope this will be fun and a chance for some creativity, stay positive. We will vote on our class name on Monday. My new website should be up and running. My goal is to try and blog each week. Let me know if you are unsuccessful finding it. You should be able to reach it the same way as our old one. Go to the New Boston Central School page, find faculty, my name, and the house icon should take you directly to the page. Have a wonderful weekend and remember to make your lists for ideas for our class name. Ms. SAM Comments are closed.
