Hey there Fellow Fearless Falcon Families,
We have some activities coming up that I could use your help with. For our Halloween celebration there will soon be an invitation to a sign up genius coming from our room mom, Rebecca Magoon. This sign up genius will have food donations as well as parent volunteer help with times. I am also looking for someone who loves to act. I would love to have someone dress up as a fortune teller to come into the class on Halloween to share some predictions with the kids as well as give them a gift or two which I will supply. Give me a call if you are interested. Lastly we will be creating costumes for our Artist in Residence. I am looking for someone or someones who might be interested in bringing their sewing machine into class to help the kids sew their costumes. It is a very simple thing to sew. So if you own a sewing machine and you know how to use it, this could be the job for you. Thank you for considering any of these ideas. SAM Dear Fearless Falcon Parents,
We have been busy busy busy. We have continued our adventure of reading the chapter book Charlotte's Web. Charlotte is pretty talented and has left encouraging messages for Wilbur. This week we found our very own web in our classroom. Maybe a we will encounter a wonderful spider friend who will leave us some encouraging messages. We are working hard on painting mental pictures in our head just through the words that Ms. Sam is reading to us. We have learned about our Lip Coolers F and V, our tongue coolers, noisy th and quiet th, as well as our fat pushed air, J and Sh. We talk about what is going on in our mouth, and how it feels. Later we will take all that information and use it to give those sounds letter names. It is so much fun to test our sounds and explore what is happening in our mouth. Our handwriting adventure has taken off. We have learned our letters lines, letter sizes, touch points, star worthy letters, the names of letter lines, starting points, initial lines, super C, and how to play the dice game. It is such fun to watch their handwriting change as their muscles grow and are able to talk about what makes their letters star worthy or not. In Gym we have learned many new games and we have earned the golden whistle for the sixth week in a row. What an honor, we work so hard in gym to show our bobcat behavior. On our Friday Fundays we have added cooking to our amazingly fun day. We have made stone soup to share with the class after reading a few versions of the story and discussing the many similarities and differences. We learned how to take a polite bite, and answer with a yes please or no thank you. We have made delicious applesauce. We tasted it plain, with sugar and then with sugar and cinnamon. We voted on which one was our favorite. We also spent some time using our senses to see, touch, taste, smell and hear the many different kinds of apples. We used lots of wonderful words to describe what he saw, felt, heard, smelled and tasted. After we made a graph of all our favorite apples. Red Delicious was hands down the favorite for the Fearless Falcons. We also get to see our learning buddies on Friday. We have been on a leaf hunt together gathering leaves to create leaf creatures. We have built the leaf creatures and this week we will write some short stories about our leaf creatures. Earlier in the month we had Candy Woodbury and Candy Brenner (former New Boston teachers) come in to show us how to paint with Nature's Paintbrush. With our learning buddies we all went to the gym and learned how to paint with flowers. It was such a treat to watch everyone paint fall trees with the many flowers that were brought in by these talented ladies. We have been busy creating some color books which we keep in our book boxes for reading. We are working on learning our colors, strengthening our fine motor muscles, letter formation, eye muscle strength and direction following. These books will come home at the end of October as we start to write and read more challenging text. We got to see the fireman this week and learn all about our fire safety rules. It was so much fun to explore the fire truck and ambulance. One of our most exciting pieces of news is that we have sent an invitation to a new friend to join our Fearless Falcon classroom. This week Dylan Beaulieu has joined us and will continue on with us for the remainder of the year. The kids are so excited to welcome him into our flock. We are now a flock of 16!!! Last week you got a paper for purchasing a t shirt.. We will be using these t shirts as part of our artist in residence program. We will be learning about the Continent of Africa. Such a diverse continent. On Friday we got to go to the third grade Michaelmas Fair. They raised a little over 5,000 dollars. WE had to make choices and make transactions. It was very busy in the gym but we all handled it very well. Thank you to Mrs. Oak for coming in to help us in the gym. If you have any questions or comments do not hesitate to reach out. We are all doing well and feeling very proud of all we do. Ms. SAM |
