All the packets have been delivered. I got to see some of friends from afar. I am so proud of all of you and how hard you all working. I know I had said you were going to explore the Wonders and Everyday Math sites tonight, however I would like to wait to launch those sites for you on Friday. We had to reach out to get access to a few more seats. This was not a problem when we were in school because the website was not being accessed. So please look for the permission to launch later on this week. Thank you for your patience as I continue to broaden my technology skills. I will respond to each one of the written responses. I love the pictures of what you are all doing, it makes me so happy to see all the hard work in action. Please reach out to me if you need help with anything and thank you again for all your patience as I continue to build my skills.
thinking of all of you!

thinking of all of you!
Ms. SAM
Good Morning,
I am headed into school this morning to get some more technology support. After I will be driving around to deliver a special surprise. I will place it somewhere that is visible and easy to get at. I hope to be able to give a wave and a virtual hug as I swing by.
I have been working on putting together a packet for you. Ms. Kim came into school yesterday to help. (Oh!!!!! I need to apologize to all of you, I failed to let you know that Ms. Kim Bacastow was hired to take Ms. Kelly's place. She is a wonderful addition to our classroom, and the transition was seamless.) Back to the packet. I thought some familiar items from school might help you begin your remote learning adventure. In your packet you will find a bag of brand new crayons, a pencil, and an eraser. I have also given you all an alphabet strip so if you need it is available. You will find about 5 Friday Funday letter sheets and a journal with lots of paper.
The next items need a bit more explanation. Below you find the name of the item with a description of how I used it in the classroom. I hope this will help.
PRE WRITING BOOK This packet is filled with tracing, mazes, connect the dots. The point of this packet is fine motor work. The focus should be, are you staying on the lines, are you staying within the lines, connecting the dots in the correct order, are you holding your pencil the right way. Remember every time your pencil touches the paper you should do your best.
WEEK FOUR SPELLING You are familiar with these packets. Please continue with your daily practice ( remember to make it fun) and then have the spelling test of Fridays. I will continue to send spelling words on Mondays.
NUMBER COLLECTION PACKETS There is a 1-10 and an 11-20. The kids will work on their handwriting, recognizing the number word and number, write a sentence using the number word, and build it. Building the number is a collection box. They need to come up with 3 or more ways to collect the number. They can only draw once (they are being mathematicians not artists.)
WAYS TO BUILD A NUMBER:
tallies
addition sentence
subtraction sentence
coins
dice
dominoes
ten frame
number word
shapes (an octagon has 8 sides)
If you are unsure of how they collected for that number have them defend their answer. They may have a different perspective than you.
HANDWRITING BOOK
I have given you a sheet of instructions for how to build the letters. The kids will talk about, star worthy versus not star worthy, they will talk about initial point, initial line, touch points and size of the letter. I sometimes paid them with jewels for star worthy letters. Maybe you have a different incentive at home. Once it has been taught they are held accountable for it in their writing.
STORY JOURNAL
They are all working on stories. They have a journal with a web on the front. The main idea is in the center circle and the ideas supporting the main idea are surrounding. My hope is to publish these stories as they are written. It is a long process. The first step is the kids write their story. Some story's are simple some are more complex. Their story should flow and have a beginning middle and end. This is a time they work on their letter and sounds, strengthening their sight word recall etc. Once the story is ready, it gets sent to the editor (that will be you) When it was me, I would focus on a skill they were struggling with. capital at the beginning of the sentence, periods at the end, a certain sight word. It was totally individualized. We would discuss the skill and then they would go back and make the corrections. Once the editing was done it went to the publisher. (This will be me.) I am hoping that you will mail me the journal, I will publish their book, build their book and send it back to you, so the kids can illustrate them. This process is such a huge part of the Readiness classroom I want to make sure this happens.
FIRST PUBLISHED STORY
Each child has their very first published book. They are all working on illustrations. The focus is fine motor, making sure the picture matches the words, reading, detail in the pictures, background and landscape to support the picture, using more than one color, and making the picture as realistic as they can. Once these are finished please mail them to me and I will build their book. My address is 102 Mountain Road Goffstown NH
SCIENCE JOURNAL
These journals can be used while you are outside on a walk. drawing observations, writing about things they see. I will also be giving some science assignments that you may use this for as well.
Keep an eye out for me!
