I wanted to give you a quick look at the next several days at school. It is a busy time of year with lots happening. Our theme for this month has been kindness. We have a Kindness Counts Countdown Calendar outside our classroom. Each day we lift a flap and find a random act of kindness to complete. As well we have been visited by two kindness elves, Jingle and Jock. They have been writing to us and we write back. We are learning lots about being kind. I hope you have seen an increase of kindness at home. Remember even that little smile, when someone greets you is a huge act of kindness. One act of kindness next Friday the 20th , we will have a walking field trip to our town’s food pantry. We will be collecting donations up until the 19th. Please look for a paper with all the details tomorrow in your child’s folder. We will also be creating some gifts for others next week. The next few days we will feel like busy elves sprinkling kindness to all we meet. Our class Holiday celebration will be on Friday December 20th. We will begin our celebration at 12. The kids will enjoy building a small gingerbread house and gingerbread boy or girl. After we will have a class gift exchange, and finish with some wonderful snacks. The kids will be exchanging gifts with each other. I like to do this like a Secret Santa. The children will draw a name and bring home the name of the child they have picked. The catch of this gift is that it must be homemade or previously owned. We will discuss keeping this a secret, so that when the gifts are opened the giver will be revealed. I use this time to teach giving and receiving, a skill that is sometimes difficult for young children. Tomorrow we will be discussing some ideas and send home a list, but to name a few….. cookies, crafts, toys no longer wanted, drawings, etc. fun to be creative and see what you can come up with and make a gift that is special for their chosen person. This exchange is so amazing to watch because you see the pride in the giver as they have made a special thoughtful gift, and the joy in the receiver. Please make sure your child’s gift comes to school no later than Thursday December 19th, wrapped with a tag stating who it is to, NOT who it is from. If this causes a hardship for your family please contact me and we will work something out. Rebecca West will be sending out a new sign up genius for our Holiday celebration and for some items needed for our crafting next week. If you have not signed up for a conference yet, please connect with me so we can schedule a time to meet. Please look tomorrow for your child’s secret santa and the paper for the Food drive. As well be on the lookout for an email with a signup genius invitation. Thank you for all your support Happy Holidays Ms. SAM
