Happy Fall!! We have been celebrating the fall in our classroom. I hope you have been enjoying this beautiful cool weather. I just want to make sure that you all are aware of how our school works. The temperatures inside and outside fluctuates immensely. Please make sure that your child, now that the weather is getting cooler, has a jacket in the morning and other layers. It is always easier to take off layers than to apply layers you don't have. We have had a couple of busy weeks. Our handwriting program "Size Matters" has taken over the classroom.. You will hear "that's not a size one" or "that doesn't have all it's touch points" or most importantly that is not "star worthy" We are becoming inspectors and detectors of star worthy letters. The kids will be held responsible for all letters that have been taught, so far E and F. They will need to make all of their capital (size one) E's F's correctly to be star worthy. We have learned about primary and secondary colors. We have created color books that we are reading independently. We use these books for independent reading and sharing with our friends. We have learned some new math games to play with our friends. Monster squeeze, top it, and garbage. We continue to work on all of our calendar skills as well. We work so hard all week, however our stamina lasts until Wednesday. I am sure you have all seen our behaviour change as the week goes on. Thursday's and Fridays are tricky for most of us. Last week on Friday, one of our custodians brought in a baby snapping turtle to share with us. It was an impromptu visit but so worth our time as we all shared stories that related to our new found friend and learned about the job of a custodian. We are working on our fine motor skills with our fine motor bags and our daily work with handwriting. Some of us find working at a standing position on a slanted easel is far more effective than sitting down on a flat table. We have learned that everyone needs tools, not everyone needs the same tools. We talked about Christopher Columbus. The year he sailed, his three ships, and many more details. We sang about him, read about him and even acted his history out in creative play. What great fun we have learning through play. We have discussed lip poppers, tappers, scrappers. Skinny sounds, and lip coolers. We are all working though our sounds and making them clearly build our reading knowledge. What fun we have with our sounds. We are still following the adventure of Minli and the man of the moon. I hope your kids have been filling you in on all of the adventures. This adventure offers us the chance to build language, listening skills, mental pictures and sustainability. What a great way to learn.....through literature. We are all working very hard, please don't forget those ideas for our class name this week. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and connect with me. Loving this fall weather, Ms. SAM Comments are closed.
